In order to reach the goals of the European Union to obtain a carbon neutral economy by 2050, it is necessary to develop alternative fuels to fossil fuels and their progressive replacement in homes, industry or transport.
In this sense, green hydrogen is postulated as a strong candidate to achieve this goal both due to its characteristics as a fuel and economies of scale in its production as well as the guarantee of zero emissions in its use.
That is why the Port of Vigo, within the framework of its "Blue Growth" strategy, has decided to start the conceptual design and consolidation of the consortium of companies to develop the "Julio Verne" Project, a project for the generation and dispensing of Green Hydrogen for application in port logistics operations, industrial consumption, land mobility applications, maritime mobility applications and "zero emissions" Cold Ironing in the Port of Vigo area.
Hydrogen generation will be obtained from an electrolyzer connected to the electricity grid, fed locally as far as possible by associated renewable facilities and completed by PPAs of 100% Renewable origin. The hydrogen generated will be used to fuel pilot / demonstration projects in mobility (port logistics, automotive and naval).
The project will be developed in two phases to adapt it to demand, with an initial estimate of about 129 kg / day (nominal) and ending at approximately 516 kg / day (nominal). And the installation will consist of the following:
The estimated budget for the first phase is € 2,309,165 while the projection of the expansion of the project to reach its maximum capacity is another € 2,158,800.
This project will be developed by a consortium of companies, organizations and institutions with extensive experience in the management and development of similar complex technical projects, being participants: UNIVERGY, QUANTUM GROUP, ANFACO, SOLTEC INGENIEROS, NEUWALME, UNIVERSIDADE DE VIGO, GRUPO BOTAMAVI, UNVI, AISTER, ENERGYLAB, ACLUNAGA, CTAG, and the PORT AUTHORITY OF VIGO.
