Smart Energy Ports & Harbours

State

In progress

Description

Ports are infrastructures with high energy consumption in which any improvement made in terms of energy generation or energy consumption represents great savings, resulting in improved environmental performance and energy efficiency.

Thus, this project was born with the aim of achieving a self-sufficient port model, improving energy efficiency and sustainability in port environments, adopting innovative energy technologies. The objective is to reduce the Port's energy consumption by 25% and achieve 20% self-consumption in all buildings owned by the Port Authority.

The project is structured in several "service units" linked to port terminals and services, which allow its replicability and adaptation to other port environments, in which the different innovative energy technologies are integrated.

Expected results

The implementation of this project aims to improve the energy efficiency of the different port facilities, as well as installing renewable energy generation systems (currently photovoltaic), in order to achieve 20% electrical self-consumption.

Contribution

Green port: through the implementation of this project it is possible to reduce energy consumption, as well as the carbon footprint of the Port of Vigo. In this way, the Port tries to be more sustainable in its activities and contributes to the fight against climate change.

Current state

The project is currently under execution. Several energy efficiency measures have already been implemented in port facilities that will lead to savings in energy consumption.
