FAO chooses Vigo to train to countries of Latin America and Africa in fisheries inspection

La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y Agricultura (FAO) ha elegido el puerto de Vigo para poner en marcha un "Training Hub", un centro de formación en materia pesquera-portuaria sostenible dirigido a los jefes de los inspectores de países de América Central, Sudamérica y África. El Consejo de Administración del Puerto aprobó ayer el inicio de la tramitación del acuerdo entre la Autoridad Portuaria, FAO, Puertos del Estado, Xunta y Secretaría General de Pesca para poner en práctica este centro formador que celebrará dos cursos anuales, el primero ya el próximo junio y el siguiente en septiembre, secuencia mensual que se repetirá en los siguientes años.

"Será como traer la FAO al Puerto de Vigo", subrayó López Veiga que además de lo que significa en términos de "reputación de la buena" para el recinto vigués, sugirió algunos beneficios que redundarán en la ciudad por el funcionamiento de ese Training Hub, en forma de más pasajeros para Peinador, ocupación de hoteles y restaurantes.

Entre los objetivos de FAO figura la lucha contra la pesca ilegal, no declarada y no reglamentada (pesca "INDNR"), y en ellos justifica las "acciones de formación y acompañamiento para el refuerzo de capacidades de países terceros", como recoge la memoria expuesta ayer al Consejo del Puerto. Con este cometido funcionará el centro de Vigo, al que acudirán los jefes de inspección pesquera de las citadas procedencias para después formar a los equipos a su cargo en sus respectivos países.

FAO se propone crear una red de centros como el de Vigo a nivel internacional, pero quiere que el vigués "se convierta en referencia, punto focal, para los países de África y América Latina". Para Praza da Estrela, la iniciativa solo tiene aspectos positivos y por lo que indica la citada memoria sin ningún coste puesto que los asumirá "íntegramente" la organización con sede en Roma. En concreto, el acuerdo explica que la "participación del Puerto de Vigo será la de facilitar el uso de instalaciones para su desarrollo, facilitar los ejercicios prácticos e impartir sesiones relacionadas con la actividad logística portuaria del pescado".

Red de Puertos Blue Growth

En paralelo y relacionado con lo anterior, FAO impulsará una Red de Puertos Pesqueros Blue Growth también a nivel internacional cuyo "objetivo es transmitir la idea de que los Puertos se constituyan como núcleos impulsores de desarrollo sostenible en su área de influencia". Para ello, añade la memoria, "se propone el uso de metodologías participativas e inclusivas en las que todos los agentes económicos portuarios participen, tal como se realizó en el piloto del proyecto de crecimiento azul del Puerto de Vigo".

La implementación de esta Red se llevará a cabo en dos fases. Primero con el diseño de un Código de Buenas Prácticas para la puesta en marcha del Crecimiento Azul en el marco del desarrollo sostenible; y una vez aprobado este, la segunda fase, prevista para 2019, se creará la Red de Puertos Pesqueros de Crecimiento Azul en el marco del desarrollo sostenible.
