This was confirmed by the President of the Port
Authority of Vigo, Carlos Botana, after meeting this morning with the
Secretary-General of the Association, Federico Fernández, and the President of
the Spanish Maritime Institute, Mercedes Pardo. In the meeting, Gerardo
González, Head of Project Division of the Port Authority, also participated,
and both parties have decided to join forces to present a joint educational
project that allows aligning current demand with existing offerings through
training courses.
Likewise, the two entities will combine efforts
in various educational initiatives with schools in the Vigo Area, such as those
carried out by the Port of Vigo with guided visits to the "Nautilus"
underwater observatory and the historic ship "Hidria Segundo," or
those promoted by the Association, such as the construction of cardboard boats
by the children themselves. An exciting activity that goes beyond the
construction of vessels with recycled material, as it embodies fundamental
values such as teamwork, camaraderie, and the pursuit of a shared goal.
At the end of the spring of 2024, the boats
will be launched into the water in a joint and simultaneous launching
throughout Spain, symbolizing the vision of the sea as an inexhaustible source
of personal and professional growth for the future. Finally, the Port Authority
of Vigo and Blue Education will seek synergies to enhance the Camino de
Santiago, as the association travels the French Way by sea, and from the Port,
the Traslatio route is promoted. The goal is to unite both initiatives.
Over 600 participants, including students from five schools and members of two associations, took part in the educational and nautical activities of the 2024 Azul Festival. Students enjoyed eight activities designed to promote knowledge of the sea and nautical skills, from sailing lessons to cooking workshops and visits to traditional boats. Organized by the Rías Baixas Nautical Cluster Association, the 2024 Azul Festival has established itself as a key event to promote maritime culture and sustainability in the Ría de Vigo.
